With the silhouette more popular than ever, adidas presents a two-shoe collection of the Handball Spezial; after successful collaborations with Sporty & Rich, END., and Solebox, the multitude of GRs that The Brand With The Three Stripes offer keeps this model in demand. Being affordable and accessible has made adidas what it is today; indeed, it is the core statement of the brand and will never change. First released in 1979, the Handball Spezial was crafted for indoor sports. The low-cut aesthetic immediately became a favorite of the latest streetwear trends, worn by crowds attending soccer matches in particular, both in the UK and mainland Europe. Different factories that held licenses from adidas began producing their variants, mixing up the materials and using vibrant colors to make the sneaker stand out when more conservative styles were mainstream.
That kind of diversity has led to nearly a half-century of heritage. Traditional and modern vibes keep things fresh with the women’s exclusive adidas Handball Spezial Ornate Carpet Pack. While the official marketing states that ornate vintage carpets are the basis for the patterns, it’s hard to deny the relation to the adidas Rivalry Low Grandma’s Couch launched in collaboration with Unheardof last year.
Arriving in two colorways, Collegiate Green and Night Indigo, this collection features uppers constructed of woven textile patterns contrasted by leather stripes, heels, and lace stays. Dark collegiate green and spark yellow hues adorn one pair, while the other is covered in night indigo and orange tones, giving both a unique look. Designed by the inline women’s team at adidas, both pairs feature minimal branding while sitting atop gum-colored rubber soles.
The adidas Handball Spezial Ornate Carpet Pack W will release in Holiday 2024 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in women’s sizing, retail is to be announced.
