New Balance and Boston-based retailer Concepts have a storied history of collaborations, producing some of the most memorable sneaker designs over the past decade. Known for their innovative takes on classic silhouettes, the two brands have slowed their collaborative efforts recently. However, they made headlines last year with the retro release of the 998 Made in USA C-Note and a project on the 992 in 2021. This year, Concepts and New Balance are set to reignite their partnership with a fresh take on the 1906U.
The Concepts x New Balance 1906U Hours and Days draws inspiration from the duo’s 2012 New Balance 999 collaboration, aptly named SEAL (Sea, Air, and Land). This new iteration features a dynamic design that incorporates a variety of hues and materials representing these elements. Ocean blue suede panels dominate the midfoot, while earthy tans and creams cover the overlays, adding depth and texture to the upper.
A closer look reveals that the sneaker’s lateral side showcases a different color scheme with primarily brown hues, suggesting a potential mismatched theme or these are different sample variations, as indicated by the sample tag in the early photo. The base layer consists of white mesh, providing breathability and contrast. Like the OG, we see an elevation map pattern placed on the insole. Completing the design is a cream, green, and blue midsole paired with a striking blue outsole, ensuring comfort and style.
The Concepts x New Balance 1906U Hours and Days will release on August 2, 2024, exclusively via Concepts online and in-store. VIPs will have access to the pair on July 31, 2024. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $175.
