Short look into the history – Nike Dunk Low
The story of the Dunk begins in 1985, about 38 years ago. Nike designer Peter Moore designed the Dunk High as a basketball trainer. The Dunk was inspired by previous successful silhouettes from Nike. Among others, you can find elements of the Air Force 1, the Terminator and the Air Jordan 1 in Peter Moore’s successful basketball design.
The Dunk silhouette was slowly overshadowed by the success of the Air Jordan 1, however, the original basketball trainer was picked up in an unexpected market, the skate community.
It was not until the early 2000s, when legendary Sandy Bodecker, was appointed as the new head of Nike Skateboarding, that the great success of the Nike Dunk SB series came. Curious about all the information surrounding the SB Dunk? Read here: The ultimate Nike SB Dunk FAQ
In the late years of the 2010 decade, the Dunk and mainly Low execution began to gain popularity from the general public and also saw a lot of famous collaborations with names like Travis Scott or Virgil Abloh.

The split nature of the trainer is reflected in the black and white swoosh and outsole. It also uses different kinds of Nike branding.
Nike Dunk Low WMNS ‘Photon Dust’
The Dunk Low has become a firm favourite within today’s pop culture. The silhouette came out in summer 2021 and now two years later is still a fine trainer for summer.
Nike Dunk Low Premium ‘Sesame’
In 2022, Nike released a tasteful premium Dunk Low inspired by a bagel sandwich. The trainer comes in a bread-like shade of beige with blue branding. A closer look at the trainer reveals that the overlays feature tiny sesame seeds as a nod to the sandwich on which the trainer takes its inspiration.
